Miniature Horse Show
August 25-16, 2001
Airfield Conference Center, Wakefield, VA
Accommodations:
Question: I missed the deadline to reserve a room at Airfield
Conference Center, where can I stay for the Show?
Answer: WCMHR is trying to
obtain more rooms at Airfield Conference Center. Please go to
Accommodations to check out other Hotels or Motels. The Wakefield
Inn has recently been redecorated and is only about 3/4 of a mile
from the Center. We have been told that their rates are $43.95
per night for a double. If you have difficulty finding a room
please contact us.
Entry Level Classes:
Question: How do I know if I
qualify for the Entry Level Classes?
Answer: Entry Level Classes
are designated for those Exhibitors that have only shown in a
particular class for no longer than 2 years. Many newcomers that
have never shown before enter these classes.
Question: Can I register for an
Entry Level Class and also for the Championship Class?
Answer: Yes, you can.
Question: Is there an award
for the High Point Entry Level Exhibitor?
Answer: Yes, the Exhibitor
that obtains the highest points in the Entry Level Halter
Performance Classes in Hunter, Jumper, and Obstacle Mini Trail
will receive an award. The high points are accumulated from all
Entry Level Entries An Exhibitor may enter more than one horse in
these classes. One could easily show several horses in a Hunter,
Jumper, and Obstacle Mini Trail Class.
Question: Does it matter
whether you are a Youth or Adult for Entry Level Classes?
Answer: No. Separate High
Point Awards for Youth and Adult in Entry Level Classes.
Question: I have
been showing miniature horses for years in the halter breed
classes but have only shown in a Hunter Class one time. Can I
qualify for the Entry Level in the Hunter Class?
Answer: Yes you certainly
qualify for the Entry Level Hunter Class. The reason for having
Entry Level Classes is to aquaint newcomers and to allow those
that want to try a new class an opportunity to compete at a
beginner's level.
Multicolor
Classes
Question: How do
you plan to have separate awards for Pintos and Appaloosas?
Answer: Pintos will line up
on one side and Appaloosas on the other. There
will be 10 placements for each group.
Question: Does my horse
have to be an adult to qualify for the Color Classes?
Answer: Horses
of any age may participate in the Color Class.
Question: Is the horse
being judged on anything but color?
Answer: The Color Classes
are to be judged 100% on color. However, the horse should be
sound and have good conformation to be in any class. The Judge
should look for the Horse that would be the most eye-catching in
general.
Question: How do
the horses usually line up for Color Classes?
Answer: The exhibitors usually walk into the ring with the horse
in hand (leading) and circle or line up.
Question: My horse
is a pintaloosa--about half and half. Can I show the horse in
either Pinto or Appaloosa?
Answer: Yes, you should show the horse in the color
characterisitc that is the most dominant. There will most likely
be fewer Appaloosas than Pintos.
Solid Color
Classes
Question: Is my horse a
solid color if it has white socks and a blaze?
Answer: Leg and Face
markings are still considered a solid color horse. Solid Colors
also include roans. An appaloosa can often appear to be a roan,
but wil probably develop mottled skin areas.(pink with black
spots).
Model Classes
Question: Is
there an age limit on the model horse?
Answer: The Model Horse
must be a two-year old or older.
Question: What's
the difference between the age halter breed classes like 1998 or
older and the model classes?
Answer: Model Horses are
judged upon their overall appearance only. The Exhibitor enters
the ring with the Horse in hand and usually walks in a circle and
lines up with the others to be judged.
The Halter Breed Classes that are based on the age of the horse
and the Jr. and Sr. Grand Champions compete for the Supreme
Champion Award. The Exhibitor enters the ring with the Horse in
hand and begins to trot past the Judge and then to where the
Horses are lined up to be judged. The Judge usually walks to each
Horse or the Judge may ask that each Horse be brought to the
center of the ring to stand to be judged. The Judge is looking
for overall appearance and way of going (how the horse moves).
Supreme Champions
Question: What horses qualify for
the Breed Supreme Champions?
Answer: Because there is so much difference between a Jr. Horse
and Sr. Horse,
WCMHR believes that they should not be competing against each for
overall appearance and way of going. The Sr. Grand Champion
Stallion, Mare, and Gelding, enter the Ring to be judged. They
have already been judged and won in their respective classes so
it is not necessary to trot again. The Horse selected as the
Winner will be the Sr. Supreme Champion.
The same process for Jr. Grand Champions. There is a Supreme Champion for A Division, B Division and Show Ponies. Show Ponies will not be divided by Jr. and Sr.
Halter Performance Supreme
Champion
Question: How does my horse
qualify for the Performance Supreme Champion?
Answer: The Halter
Performance Supreme Champion is an award for the Horse with the
highest points in Hunter, Jumper, and Obstacle Mini Trail.
Separate Supreme Champions for the A Div., B Div., and Show
Ponies.
Show Ponies will compete in an Obstacle Class that may have several jumps included to give them a more diversified course.
Driving Performance Supreme Champion
The Driving Supreme Champion is an award for the Horse with the highest points in Pleasure Driving, Roadster, and Obstacle Driving. An Exhibitor can obtain more points in the Driving Class by having more than one entry in the Obstacle Driving Class. Only one horse is in the Ring at a time.
Supreme vs. High Point
Exhibitor
Question: Shouldn't the person that wins
the High Point Exhibitor also be the same Exhibitor that shows
the Supreme Performance Champion.
Answer: No,
one horse may do better with one Exhibitor in the Hunter and
Jumper Class than the Exhibitor that may show the Horse in the
Obstacle Mini Trail. Supreme Champion is based on the Horse, not
the Exhibitor.
Many Families bring numerous horses and they want to divide up
the Classes
and not be restricted to one horse, one exhbitor.
Question: My Horse and I have never even
been in a Show before but I have awesome Horse that could
possibly win every performance class. What chance does a newcomer have for the top awards?
Answer: The Best Horse
Always Deserves to Win!
Question: Can I show more than one horse in the Hunter, Jumper,
Liberty, and Obstacle Mini Trail Classes?
Answer: Yes, you can enter
as many horses as you like in these classes. However, Liberty
Classes are not compiled in the Supreme Champion or High Point
Awards.
Liberty Classes
Question: Can just
one person do the Liberty Class?
Answer: Yes, please
remember that when there are two Exhibitors in the Ring with the
Horse, only the person who released the Horse when the music
starts is the one that can capture and rehalter the Horse.
Question: Why isn't the
Liberty Class calculated for the Supreme Champion in Halter
Performance?
Answer: Liberty Classes often require more training and a Horse
that is willing to cooperate. Although this is one of the most
beautiful classes, not every horse or every Exhibitor is
suitable.
Entry Fees
Question: What is
the deadline for entries?
Answer: August 15, 2001.
An additional post entry fee of $2 per horse per class will be
charged for any entries not received or postmarked by that date.
Entries and add ons may be received at the Show at the same
additional fees.
Question: Can I
prepay for my classes before the deadline and then add them when
I get to the Show?
Answer: Yes, if a credit
card or check for the entries is received by August 15, 2001.
Question: What if
I send and pay for my entries before the deadline and I find out
that my horse should be in another Division when I get to the
show?
Answer: You will be permitted to switch to the correct classes
for the Division without the post entry penalty. Please see the
Show Management as soon as possible about the changes.
Scratches are refundable only with a written excuse from a qualified Vet for each horse. Substitutions may be made up to one class before at an additional fee of $2 per horse per class.
Driving Classes
Pleasure Driving
Question: I have an easy entry cart; will that be acceptable in
the Pleasure Driving Classes?
Answer: Many Drivers will
be using easy entry carts
